The new banknotes are part of the National Bank's planned efforts to update the design and security features of the 2009 banknotes, as well as replace worn and damaged banknotes with banknotes fit for circulation. The new 200-ruble banknote continues the series of previously updated banknotes in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 rubles, issued in 2019-2022. The 200-ruble banknotes of the 2009 design currently in circulation remain legal tender. The banknote's design is conceptually similar to the current 200-ruble banknote, but has a number of differences. The facsimile of the signature of the former Chairman of the Board of the National Bank, Pyotr Prokopovich, has been replaced with a facsimile of the signature of the current Chairman, Roman Golovchenko. The banknote's design year, "2009," has been replaced with the year it was issued into circulation, "2026." The name of the architectural structure depicted on the banknote—"Magileu County Art Museum named after P.V. Maslenikava"—is now included. The banknote's security features have also been improved. They build on the security features of the two-hundred-ruble banknote currently in circulation, incorporating new elements, replacing some with improved modifications, and eliminating some obsolete security features. A filigree watermark featuring a very light image of the denomination "200" has been added to the multi-tone watermark. The security thread has been replaced with a wider one (4 mm) featuring pronounced security features. The paper features an Iron Frame edge reinforcement along the long edge of the banknote. Durability has been increased by double-sided varnishing. "The updated security system will ensure reliable protection of banknotes from counterfeiting while simultaneously allowing citizens to more easily, quickly, and accurately verify their authenticity," the National Bank noted.
